New WDIV anchor Ty Steele, who has been tasked with filling some big shoes by replacing the retiring Devin Scillian, tells the Detroit News he's excited about Detroit.

Married and the father of four daughters, the Washington state native tells reporter Melody Baetens:

I mean, as you know, as a journalist in Detroit, this is a great time to be coming to the city and the area. Michigan has a lot to offer, Metro Detroit and the suburbs have always had a lot to offer and now it's Detroit, this major comeback city. Such exciting things are happening, not just for the sports teams, but with the whole economy here. So all these things added up and we thought: let's do it. Let's let's take this opportunity and move to this great area.

I mean Detroit is such an exciting city right now. There's so many great narratives. I'm really excited to dive into Detroit music, food and cultural scene. Also all the business news and economic news that's happening with the local businesses that are thriving and the new tech industry that's forming here.

He's also ready to jump in as a Lions fan.

I'm excited to be a Lions fan. We've moved around in the business so much that we've never latched onto one team. We're from the Seattle area so we used to be bigger Seahawks fans, but we haven't been there for about 15 years
